Opening the Jewellery Box: The Pink Melange
The Pink melange
Pretty in Pink
A fabulously monochromatic convertible piece, the Pink Melange boldly displays varied shades and hues of pink gemstones. This combination was constructed to display an unusual collection of cuts, shapes, and facets in tandem with the negative space created by the hand-wrought wires discreetly used for the Pink Melange’s flexible structure. The whimsical addition of a tiny gem-set bumblebee completes this playful story.
The Pink Melange is soft and bold, experimental and elegant.
Pink-Me-Up
The Pink Melange’s name doubles as its descriptor: “melange” is the French word for “mixture,” reflecting the piece as a medley of controlled pink chaos. I love mixing and matching gems, colors, and cuts and seeing what bejewelled conversation arises. Every angle lends for a new discovery; even from the side, a gemstone skyline emerges. Each stone has been intentionally chosen and configured to best highlight the overall shape of the piece so that it feels as luxurious as it looks.
Think Pink
When selecting gemstones for the Pink Melange, I wanted to pick jewels that encapsulated a variety of emotions associated with the color pink. While pink is associated with a darling, youthful, and hyper-feminine reputation, I am inspired by its cultural transformation into multifaceted maturity (remember the Millennial pink craze a few years back?). Compared to other colors, pink pushes the boundaries of its own symbolism. By mixing warm and cool undertones, light and dark shades, the piece transforms depending on how it is styled.
The Pink Melange is composed of kunzites, pink sapphires, pink tourmalines, rubellites, rubies, and pink diamonds. Perhaps of greatest note are the slices of pink tourmaline, lining the piece like a precious pink path.
Pink Power
The Pink Melange may be worn as a bracelet or, with the addition of a sculptural rose gold connection, as a choker-style necklace. By carefully customizing the piece to the wearer’s exact measurements, its versatility highlights the pattern of the gemstones as well as the delicate craftsmanship. The rose gold connection may also be worn as its own bracelet for a polished-meets-edgy architectural look.
