Opening the Jewellery Box: The Oscar
The OSCAR
True Blue
The Oscar Necklace is named after a beloved friend who nurtured my appreciation for the beautiful blue kyanites that compose this necklace. I was fortunate enough to meet this friend during a family trip to Nepal and India. I was taken aback by the parcels of velvety indigenous jewels, unearthed from a local town with a mining history as rich as the gems’ royal hues. As my friend explained the careful methodology of extracting these delicate stones, I knew I must create a piece to highlight their soft strengths. Each time I visit this necklace, it carries me straight back to the fantastical foothills of Mount Everest.
Blueprint
A flexible and convertible necklace set in platinum, the Oscar consists of a mélange of natural gemstones and diamonds in varying shades of blue. The diversely shaped kyanites, blue sapphires, apatites, turquoises, and zircons have been strategically placed in a seemingly haphazard manner. These gems range from pale to navy blue, and are oftentimes surrounded by white diamonds, or set with blue sapphire-encrusted prongs.
A Dream Come Blue
Two different portions of the necklace may be removed and worn as bracelets: one resembling the assemblage style of the necklace and the other a comparatively dainty trail of jewels. The heart-shaped stone is removable as well, and may be snapped into a white diamond-encrusted platinum shank to be worn as a ring. In order for the ring to be worn together with either the necklace or bracelet, we have created two heart-shaped stones – one 1.78 carat emerald and one 1.66 carat iolite that are completely interchangeable.
