“The most characteristic technique employed in Egyptian jewellery was cloisonné. Designs were outlined in strips of metal, which were placed on edge and soldered onto plates to form cells. The cells were filled with colored inlays of stone or other material. This technique is known from the early Old Kingdom, but it became particularly popular in the New Kingdom; the gaudy effect of many objects in Tutankhamun’s tomb is due to the use of gold cloissoné,”
